Fundraising

FUNDRAISERS
There is an opportunity to fundraise every month.
Fundraisers are established as a group, but money earned will be for you as an individual.
Our goal is to help you raise at least 50% of the total cost of the trip.

Fundraiser #1  WALK FOR EDUCATION 5K

5K WALK FOR EDUCATION

What:  The Collective Voices Foundation is organizing a fun, non competitive walk to raise funds and awareness for educational programs in our community.  In short, programs like ours that aspire to offer students opportunities and experiences that transcend the classroom.

The Aveson International Student Exchange (that's us) registered for the event and we were accepted.

We were offered by Collective Voices to participate because they believe in what we are trying to do.  They believe that all students should explore and experience the world.

When: Saturday, November 16th 9:30am - 11:30am

Where: Pasadena Central Park 219 S. Fair Oaks Pasadena, CA 91105

Fund My 16 year-old Teenage Travel Dream:

My name is Erika, and I'm 16 years old and a Sophomore student in an Indiana high school. Aside from my studies, I run both cross country and track and I am involved in multiple school clubs and organizations. I volunteer at my church and I participate in the school band by playing my flute. I was very fortunate to receive my flute during middle school, from a donation to our school music department. I also worked for a 90 year old woman who recently passed away. I saved all of my earnings, but the money is not nearly enough to afford this trip.
This year I was presented the opportunity of traveling to Bolivia as part of a 2012 teen summer abroad program with a group of friends for 28 days. We would be able to backpack through the South America Andes Mountains, snow and ice climb, and also travel near the Amazon rain forest. It's a study abroad travel program where some classes take place at high altitude! The trip is very expensive, but if I can raise enough money, I would be allowed to participate on this trip of a lifetime.
I heard about crowd funding on IndieGoGo and decided to try this type of fundraiser with help from my mom. I think my summer abroad program could be a good cause for a crowd sourcing donation. I hope you will consider donating a gift of Latin America travel to a 16 year old teenager like me.
Please donate or share this link with your friends. I am counting on your help and will be forever grateful.

Top 10 Reasons to Sponsor Me and Help Me with My Fundraiser:

  1. I work hard in school and rank #5 out of about 800 Sophomore students.
  2. I will be able to practice my Spanish with international native speakers.
  3. I will sample Latin America food, perhaps even eat llama or guinea pig.
  4. This learning experience will further my education and make me unique when applying to colleges.
  5. I will hear traditional Bolivian flutes which will enhance my perspective and knowledge of flute music.
  6. Bolivia will expand my knowledge of the wilderness. This is an opportunity not many high school students are presented with.
  7. I would view a developing country first hand and be able to share the impact of this experience with my classmates. Just as my friend from China taught me a few words in Chinese, I could teach her about Bolivia.
  8. I will share my knowledge of the United States with local children we encounter in several villages and those living high in the Andes.
  9. When else will I have an opportunity to ice climb?
  10. A month abroad with my friends and no parents (only guides and instructors) is a teenage girls dream!

Bolivia Summer Abroad Program Details:

  1. One week acclimatization in La Paz city and exploring the city of Copacabana & Isla Del Sol on Lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world)
  2. Two weeks trekking in the Andes Mountains (the Cordillera Real Norte) backpacking with our own food, traveling with donkey and mule packs, and sleeping in tents (highest altitude 18,040 feet)
  3. One week exploring the Amazon Jungle including a night hike with local indigenous guides in the vicinity of Rurrenabaque

Add to My Learning Experience:

I'm happy to answer questions, even if I have to research the answers. I want to be prepared and I'm looking forward to learning more about Bolivia.
